So guys.. As usual for the final post I have collected opinions from people about a question related to unhappy singles.

Sneha: well 1st thing will be to never leave the frnd alone to show tht there are others who care for her... love shouldnt hurt the ppl involved so just give her some time and then start introducing her into ur company n telling her that she will get a much better guy in future

I found many asking me back, whether it is correct or not after giving their opinions. Some asked me mine.

Mine... ??? All the above.. Yes.. Coz the gist, the essence of each opinion is to be happy.. Thats the ultimate motive. Do what makes you happy. Don't you see that all have different approaches? Take what you like. But be happy. Hope for it. As we all deserve it.

Things that could be done on Valentines day for singles(unhappy to be so):

Hmmm...

Some websites suggested to consider Valentines day as a day to express love to anyone we are close to. But arent there enough of other days too.. Mother's day, Father's day, Friendship day..... I heard there are about 160 such days in a year

And in the post Valentine week - 7, I mentioned about single adoption program. Do you wanna be the "third party"? I dont think so if you have already experienced such intervention from people.

So, from what I saw, heard, read I found following effective.

1. Picture your future love relationships: be hopeful, optimistic, and confident. Visualization floods your body with good hormones and positive feelings.

2. Got a lot of singles in your whereabouts and contacts? This way, no one will feel lonely. They can enjoy a night of fun and excitement.

3. Watch a romantic movie. Make sure its a happy ending one. Not alone. With friends. Not in silence. But talking over each scene. Not analysing emotions. Making fun out of the costumes, dialogues and expressions.

4. Write a love letter. Infact if you got a group, have "Love letter competition" The funniest will be awarded first prize. The author of the letter which made anyone cry will be given bumps or gotta pay for the dinner for all.

5. Wish "Happy Valentines day" to everyone you see.

6. Got a couple who lived together for more than 25 years? If not find one. Gift them and have a chat over experiences they had in life when they realised they were meant to be together. How they overcame hurdles of misunderstandings, distrust and all such. Gives you positive vibes and advice about future.

7. "Adopt a soldier and send him/her a Valentine's Day card." Found this suggestion online, but I dont know how in India we could do. If there is a possibility, definitely go with it.

Valentine week - 3

Top romantic novels.. They definitely have an impact on the cynical outlook a person acquires after heart break (or whatever)

1. Pride and Prejudice

First published - 1813

Author - Jane Austen

Sparks fly when spirited Elizabeth Bennett meets single, rich, and proud Mr. Darcy. But Mr. Darcy reluctantly finds himself falling in love with a woman beneath his class. Can each overcome their own pride and prejudice?

My comments: My alltime favorite. I see the novel as fight between ego and attitude. I find myself closer to the mentality of Elizabeth. So was able to appreciate it a lot.

2. Sense and sensibility

First published - 1811

Author - Jane Austen

The story is about Elinor and Marianne, two daughters of Mr Dashwood by his second wife. The contrast between the sisters' characters is eventually resolved as they each find love and lasting happiness. Through the events in the novel, Elinor and Marianne encounter the sense and sensibility of life and love.

My comments: Truly delight for people who think sensibly. Elinor my favorite.

3. Wuthering Heights

First published - 1847

Author - Emily Bronte

The narrative tells the tale of the all-encompassing and passionate, yet thwarted, love between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw, and how this unresolved passion eventually destroys them and many around them.

My comments: AH!! I can't explain in words how I felt reading this one. You need to think out of the box to understand this one. I literally cried reading the lines of Heathcliff when Cathy dies. How destructive the plot may be, how unchanging cruel the male protagonist may be, I still loved this one.

4. Gone with the wind

First published - May 1936

Author - Margaret Mitchell

American classic in which a manipulative woman and a roguish man carry on a turbulent love affair in the American south during the Civil War and Reconstruction.

My comments: How beautiful the plot, description and everything may be, I have a problem of disliking a story without uniting or atleast poetic justice. So, obviously I wouldn't be able judge this one properly. Have good time reading it.

5. Jane Eyre

First published - 1847

Author - Charlotte Bronte

Jane refuses to become Mr. Rochester's paramour because of her "impassioned self-respect and moral conviction." She rejects St. John Rivers' Puritanism as much as the libertine aspects of Mr. Rochester's character. Instead, she works out a morality expressed in love, independence, and forgiveness.

My comments: I haven't read this yet but heard the story in detail from many people. Each time I sense a different approach, so it must be a thought-provoking one.

6. Love in the time of cholera

First published - Spanish 1985

Author - Gabriel García Márquez

Florentino, rejected by the beautiful Fermina at a young age, devotes much of his adult life to carnal affairs as a desperate attempt to heal his broken heart. A destructive plot yet heart warmer

My comments: Haven't read this one. But from the reviews and people who liked it, could picturise a dramatic simple plot which drown you in itself.

Surprisingly(:P), most of these popular novels are written by female authors.

Another observation is that the top two of my favorite list are written by Jane Austen and both Indian versions have Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the cast.

Now, lets get to the root of the problem. You think starting of a relationship? Is that whole issue? No. Its the reason for a break-up. I got about ten reasons for a break-up from a website. As follows.

1. Breaking promises, lying, cheating in relationships. These obvious violations of trust almost always result in relationship problems. If the basic trust in a love relationship is repeatedly broken, problems accumulate and the motivation to stay together decreases. Couples in loving relationships can learn to reconcile their differences – and even survive a physical or emotional affair – without anger or bitterness.

2. Imbalance of power in relationships. Couples may be more likely to split up when one partner has more decision-making power than the other. When one person makes all the decisions about activities, friends, financial matters, household matters, and vacations, the relationship isn’t balanced or loving, and quickly becomes unstable. Both partners should equally share the decision-making power.

3. Acceptance of stereotypes in relationships. This was once a more common reason relationships failed, but it still exists today! Mistaken gender myths include beliefs such as “Men should earn more money than women” or “Women should stay at home and raise the kids.” If couples believe these stereotypes, they create false expectations that can lead to splitting up.

4. Isolation from friends and family. This reason for splitting up is based on fear and insecurity; new couples may isolate themselves from other people because they’re “in love and want to be together.” A brief period of cocooning is normal for many couples, but it’s far healthier to interact with other people regularly.

5. Lack of self-knowledge for couples. If one or both partners aren’t in tune with their own interests, needs, desires, future plans, goals, values, and preferences, then it’s difficult for them to build a better marriage or healthy love relationship. Self-knowledge helps partners communicate who they are and what they want in a relationship, which can prevent problems.

6. Low self-esteem, insecurity, and lack of self-confidence. Relationships fail because one partner feels unworthy of being loved. This insecurity can lead to possessiveness and dependence, which isn’t healthy for either partner in the love relationship.

7. Excessive jealousy in love relationships. “Jealousy is cited as one of the most frequent causes of the breakup of romantic relationships,” writes Roger Hock. Delusional jealousy can trigger abuse and violence, which can (and should) cause a relationship breakup! Delusional jealousy isn’t a common reason for couples to split up, but normal jealousy can be.

8. Ineffective communication in love relationships. Both partners need to be able to share their thoughts, feelings, opinions, values, needs, frustrations, and joys. Sometimes couples avoid speaking honestly and hide their true selves, which may not always lead to a break up…but it doesn’t strengthen their bond!

9. Control issues in relationships. If one partner is trying to control or manipulate the other, the relationship can become weak or destructive. Controlling behaviors include checking up on the partner, name-calling, threatening the partner, requiring the partner to check in all the time, or not allowing any deviations from the schedule. These signs of obsessive love may not cause the couple to split up, but it is a sign of an unhealthy relationship.

Now that you have tried to relate with one(or more) of these, NOW put into trash... C'mon. Valentines day is less than a week away.

Remember,

Some times the sense of isolation becomes so strong that many singles tend to “hate Valentine's Day” - the day that is actually meant to celebrate love.
